Here is what some of our parents from last summer said about the program:

  • “The counselors were SO welcoming, outgoing, and warm. I felt completely comfortable leaving my child on her first day!”
  • “My son felt like he found another home.  He loved it there.  He built his confidence back up.  He loved going to camp everyday.”
  • “This was our first experience with Camp Sloper and Alexa absolutely loved it.  She came home excited and happy every single day, couldn't wait to talk about what she did there and always looked forward to going back the next day.”
  • “My daughter did not want to leave! The counselors were amazing and taught so many fun things. She'd come home singing new songs and with crafts she made that day. And the train obviously was a huge hit!”
  • "No greater pleasure than knowing how much fun your children are having during the summer at camp."

YMCA Camp Sloper is ACA Accredited! - What does ACA Accreditation mean?
As parents we always want to know that our children are in good hands when they are not with us.  The ACA accreditation of YMCA Camp Sloper can give our parents the confidence to know that this is true for their children when they are attending camp.

The American Camping Association is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country.  Its nationally recognized standards program focuses primarily on the program quality, health, and safety aspects of a camp's operation.  ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth service agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research based standards in camp operation.

ACA accreditation means that YMCA Camp Sloper has successfully completed a thorough review of its operation by the American Camping Association - from staff qualilfications and training to emergency management - and complies with the highest standards in the industry.  The 300 standards cover the following areas: Site & Foodservice, Transportation, Health & Wellness, Operational Management, Human Resources, and Program Design & Activities, including Aquatics, Adventure/Challenge and Horseback Riding.

Accredited camp status means that parents can feel confident that their child will have a camp experience that is both fun and safe.  It is another step in a commitment to provide a life changing environment in which children can grow through new experiences while building smiles, character, and lasting memories.  The accreditation program helps camps like ours promote personal growth in a fun and safe environment for children and teens.  ACA accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality camp programming.
